April was full of small excursions in nature, macro photography and watercolor work. Photos are not in any specific order and they were chosen as some of my favorites throughout this month.
This set of photographs is the second part of a photo session I worked on last month. Check out the first set here, where I added a figurative element. These images were taken during the golden hour to sunset. I wanted to portray the different shades of light during the progression of the sun setting, while capturing the beautiful architectural elements of the pier. This day was beautiful and I was joined by other eager photographers.
The lighting was bright when the sun started setting. I decided to make this image a softer black and white image to capture the beautiful 'whites' of the light.
This image was captured closer to the golden hour (aka magic hour). The daylight was a lot softer.
The sun light was beginning to elude but there was still some luminous lighting. I transformed this image to a deep rich black and white image to capture the essence of the dark areas of night while illustrating the fading light.
Overall, this was such a creative photo project and collaboration that made me appreciate light even more in photography work. My creativity ignited even more during editing, since I was able to see how different my photographs were due to the change in the sunlight.
I had such a great time incorporating the structure of the pier with this figurative photoshoot that was taken at Scripps Pier in La Jolla, CA. I was able to play a lot with lighting, line and composition. I'll definitely have another photoshoot at this location. Stay tune for another set of photographs focusing just on the architect and structure of the pier.
I had an amazing time photographing this beautiful singer and artist on the Harbor Drive Bridge in Downtown, San Diego. This was my first effort in night photography and I have fallen in love with all the creative possibilities one can play with in regards to the lighting. Check out this beautiful singer's music on YouTube and Facebook.
It was such a blessing to visit this little guy in the hospital and to capture a photo of him in the hospital room (1st image). The two other images were taken in baby's bedroom. For both locations I had to use light that was available and hospital lighting was a challenge to work with but it allowed me to be creative with angels and perspective. But the window from baby's bedroom offered beautiful lighting which allowed me to capture beautiful tone and texture.
I had a wonderful time shooting this sweet and funny couple. I was the second shooter during this photoshoot and it was great being able to have a couple that was up for anything. I wish them the best with their daughter and hope that they have a wonderful journey watching their daughter grow. Thanks for letting me be part of this wonderful moment in celebrating a new life! I cannot wait to meet her.

It has been a joy being a part of the lives of this beautiful mom and daughter duo, and being able to photograph baby's growth. I'm giddy to be able to capture the love of mom and the sweetness of daughter in our recent photo shoot. Photo sessions like this, increases my love for photography and it's a bonus that the mom, Jessica, is a photographer and artist. Check out her photography→ website.
These shots were my first attempts at simultaneously shooting in manual focus and manual mode.
I had a fun time photographing these beautiful twin girls. It was a beautiful day in Poway, CA.
A moment with the two girls laughing about something no one knows about.
Playing with dark and light. I captured a few shots during the last few minutes of the session. This was a spontaneous shot as the girls were winding down.
I was lucky enough to get an opportunity to take photos of beautiful rescue horses in East County San Diego, California through the Rock Church Horse Ministry. The rescue organization is called Rapture's Horse Rescue Foundation. These horses have been abused, neglected, and unloved but with the help of the owners and volunteers they are thriving. How lovely they are and how wonderful their personality shines on camera.
