One of the challenges of going through our journey of healing is learning to train ourselves to stay in the present moments when, at times, our past can envelop us like a surprise gust of wind in a chilly day. Our past sometimes bring up confusion, pain, sadness and anger, often causing us to miss the simple and subtle moments of blessings, joys and gratitude. I no longer want to miss these moments, so I've made a choice to live my day with an attitude of thankfulness even when the days are less than merry or when my attitude calls for a makeover. I know this will take practice and that I'll fail miserably on some days but I'm excited to try. So how do we start?
Author, Phil Callaway, says to choose thanksgiving in the midst of difficulty! This reminds me of the kind of attitude that Paul speaks of in the book of Philippians when he says to rejoice in trails. Obviously, it is easier said than done, but like anything worthwhile in life, it will require practice and discipline. You can start off with a gratitude journal (I'm adding a gratitude category in this blog), add a few things that you're grateful for if you already write in a journal or you can do something as simple as a prayer thanking God for a new day, a fresh start, and for always loving us. I am hopeful and optimistic that once we apply an attitude of thankfulness and gratitude, it'll come natural to us and it will do wonders for our healing journey.
